Hypertension More complete information will
be available soon.
However, until then, please consider some of the following thoughts. Hypertension in its "essential" form means that it is basically stress related. When an individual is under stress they will exhibit a brainwave pattern that is very high in frequency. In other words, they have very fast moving brainwaves that are dominating at that time. This is similar to a "fight or flight" brainwave pattern. When this occurs, the individual experiences vasoconstriction (this means the veins in your hands and feet constrict). When this happens, your blood pressure increases because the blood must now travel through a smaller diameter of vein. When your blood pressure is high, your body must sacrifice blood in certain areas and this puts stress on the body. Then when you relax, your blood pressure will return back to its "normal" state. Hopefully, one does not self-medicate with a vasodilitator/anti-anxiety drug such as alcohol to bring about a normal blood pressure again. Since your body is constantly seeking balance or homeostasis, eventually your blood pressure, if kept in this constant state of arousal, will move up to the most consistant pressure. When this ocurrs, "essential" hypertension is usually the result. If one chooses the medical model to resolve this problem, they will generally be given either a vasodilitator and/or a blood thinner. With Neurobiofeedback(sm) one can easily learn to become more relaxed and moreover, in control of their response to stress so they don't get to the point of being so aroused that their blood pressure is raised. This is one of the most effective treatments for this problem mainly because you are teaching someone how to become very alert and in control of their own body. When this happens, control is relatively easy. Traditional biofeedback (EMG-biofeedback) has shown tremendous effectiveness with this and now Neurobiofeedback(sm) is showing even better results. This is basically because you are dealing with where the stress directly comes from, which is the brain. Lastly, because you are given instant feedback, an individual does not have to guess whether or not they are learning properly. Results are almost instant and one can expect to feel some changes usually within a few sessions. Now if the skills are not practiced, they will be of little value. However, if you don't take your medication, you will not get results either. The difference here is dependancy on medication or yourself. NOTE: Please visit this section again in the near future. We will have much more complete information available. Please feel free to suggest any links that you feel would be a worthy addition to this section.
