Case StudiesNOTE: Additional experiences will be added soon, however, we will not post many due to the fact that they are only subjective versions of what worked for that person. We would rather use our site for more objective information that will be helpful to the visitor. Please feel free to send us your experiences with Neurobiofeedback(sm) and we may incorporate them into our site during our regular revisions. Patient Experience #1 ( Closed Head Injury ) Several years ago I was involved in an auto accident. I was able to walk away from the collision, a little shaken but otherwise unharmed. As days went by, however, I started to experience strange occurrences in my behavior, such as the inability to fall asleep at night, bumping into objects frequently, communication and memory problems, difficulty with concentration, irritability, sensitivity to light and loud or sudden noises, and most of all, a terrible chronic headache. After relating these symptoms to my Chiropractor, he recognized that I was suffering from a closed head injury. He referred me to Dr. James White, Jr. and the therapists at The Institute where I underwent Neurobiofeedback therapy in conjunction with counseling. After only twelve sessions, I started to sleep better and was able to concentrate more easily. After thirty-six sessions, I was able to focus on conversations without becoming distracted by surrounding noises, fall asleep more quickly, and I was no longer stumbling into objects as frequently. Fifty sessions into my training, I was able to read at the speed I had been able to read before the accident. My chronic headache was gone, I was able to engage in social activities, and I had a better understanding of others during conversations. As I continued with the Neurobiofeedback, I was able to regain most of my previous functioning and behavior prior to the injury. My mood swings came under control, my memory and recall was clearer, my sense of humor was fully restored, and my organizational skills had returned. Unfortunately, it takes a great amount of time, patience, effort, and struggle to recover form a closed head injury. Those of us suffering from a head injury have to understand that we are worth making our way back to a productive and fulfilling life. The Institute made that possible for me and for that I thank them.
Patient Experience #2 (Incontinence) After the birth of my first child, I started to experience episodes of urinary incontinence. I would leak whenever I sneezed, laughed, coughed, lifted heavy objects or sometimes even lifting my own child. The odor, wet clothes, and the lack of self-control embarrassed me. I felt helpless. I got to the point where I could not do anything without becoming afraid of wetting myself. I underwent a drastic social change. I declined invitations to social events and avoided personal interaction for fear that someone may make me laugh or that I might cough and urine leakage would result. I also stopped playing tennis, an activity which I had previously enjoyed once a week with my friends. I was afraid that others would notice the bulky pads and underwear that I was wearing. When I talked to my doctor about this embarrassing problem, he suggested I practice Keigel exercises. These however were ineffective and I was left feeling more helpless than ever. When I met with my doctor again, he referred me to The Institute for Inner Resources where I met Dr. White and his staff. Through Biofeedback training, I was able to overcome my incontinence. After the first two weeks, I felt more free to laugh, and coughing didn't always mean tragedy anymore. By the end of the first month, I was accepting invitations to social events and didn't have to worry so much about holding my legs together when I laughed or sneezed By the second month (about 10 sessions), I was able to rid myself of hideous pads to absorb leakage, because I was now able to laugh, sneeze, and cough without the consequences. I was even able to resume playing tennis again, I was able to control my urinary incontinence, and participate in social activities without the fear and embarrassment of urinary incontinence. Thank you for all your help.
Patient Experience #3 (ADD/ADHD) I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help with Kevin. Both Kevin's pediatrician and psychologist at school are amazed at the difference in him. I am putting together some information for them to learn more about what Neurobiofeedback is. They were both suprisingly very excited about learning more about this. As you probably remember back in the summer, Kevin started Neurobiofeedback while taking Ritalin (10mgs. at 8am, 10mgs. at noon and 10mgs. after school). When school started in September he was on 5mgs. at 8am, 5mgs. at noon and nothing after school. By October he was only taking to 5mgs. at noon. Just before Halloween we finished the program and Kevin was medication free. I must say that Neurobiofeedback was a Godsend to us, we've got the old Kevin back and he's doing much better at school. The crying and intense separation anxiety has completely stopped. The depression, lethargy and apathy is absolutely gone. He's back to his usual sweet, sassy, busy (not hyperactive) self. Thanks for all your help, we'll keep in touch.
